Our 2018 Musical is Don’t Stop Believin'

Bursting with large rock and pop chorus numbers and featuring a powerful, anthemic finale, this highly energetic, contemporary musical is sure to be well received by everyone when it premieres this summer.

It’s time to get your gleek on! The Ethel Lampert Community Center has seen better days and may soon see its final days unless the teens, volunteers and staff find a way to save it. Some sleazy city council members want to bulldoze the place to redevelop and commercialize the neighborhood and bring them gobs of sales tax revenue, but that’s not stopping the teens who frequent the community center. From basketball players to computer nerds to artists, these down-on-their-luck inner-city kids have no place else to go, and losing the center would mean losing their home away from home. When they hear of a new television reality contest for glee clubs, they decide to form their own and try out.  If they win top prize, they’ll earn enough money to keep the center open. But working together doesn’t come naturally for these tough, independent teens, and they’re not sure they’ll be able to pull it off, especially with a city council that’s bribing the egotistical celebrity judges, an annoyed (and annoying!) neighbor harping on them at every turn and a history of no one believing in them. Bursting with large rock and pop chorus numbers and a powerful, anthemic finale, this energetic, contemporary musical will bring out the gleek in everyone!

CASSA and Calgary Board of Education in Partnership

Several years ago the CBE and CASSA formed a partnership to provide an amazing musical theatre experience to 40 students ages 9 – 21.  Cassa Musical is now a collaboration with the Calgary Board of Education and Chinook Learning Summer School. We offer Leadership I, Leadership II and Advanced Actor Touring, high school credits.

During the first week of July students will create a full-length musical with all of the components. These include  set design, set construction, costumes, make-up, dance, singing, acting and technical. This experience is designed as an enrichment opportunity for students who are dedicated to the arts, have previous musical theatre experience (preferred, not required) and who are willing to create magic in just 6 days.

If you know of any children aged 9-21 who would love to be a part of this type of experience please pass along a link to this page and encourage them to contact Cassa Musical Arts*. They will not be disappointed I assure you.

2016 You Ain’t Nothin’ But A Werewolf

“CM always amazes me; putting on a full length musical in six days is unheard of. Everyone aims for success and we have never failed to put on a phenomenal performance.”

Our Participants Really Do Love Cassa Musical

"Everyone is awesome to work with, and it was loads of fun!  This is probably the best way to make friends"

I like that it is fun and the people you work with are nice.  Everyone was very helpful – Chloe

"This musical theatre environment suits me because I like accomplishing stuff if I’m going to spend my time going to rehearsal.  For example: at (a different) Theatre it took us 6 months to do a 45 minute play.  It is a challenge here, but I like it."

"I love the atmosphere, positive energy and re-inforcements, teachers and when personal help is needed it is given in full and more"

"CASSA has been like a family to me, a stage to express my love for musical theatre.  I love the people, music, shows."

"I really enjoy the dynamic group of people and the amazing effort that everyone puts in to pull the show together in six days."
