Welcome to Cassa!

Merry Christmas from All of Us at Cassa

There are many musical Christmas concerts and activities in our community in December. We hope you are able to refresh your spirit by attending a concert or holiday event in the time leading up to Christmas.

In the spirit of giving, please remember that Cassa is not only a summer event. By giving someone the opportunity to attend Cassa, Cassa in turn keeps giving back to our and your community long after the summer has passed. For many of our participants, Cassa is the highlight of the year and one that they talk about for months or years afterward. Please give someone a thoughtful gift to attend Cassa in 2020.

Donations at Christmas

Please donate to a worthwhile community organization this Christmas. If you have been considering a donation but have not yet chosen a recipient,  please make Cassa your choice. Cassa is a non-profit charitable organization and your donations go a long way to making Cassa possible each year. (Cassa is registered as a charity in Alberta.)

In Passing

We lost our dear friend, colleague and teacher, Dorothea Johanson, on November 8th, 2019. Dorothea supported Cassa from its beginnings in 1993, first as a teacher sending students to the programs, then as a volunteer photographer and videographer, leading the field. We will miss her greatly.

  • "Well rounded, versatile program.  Positive attitude, well organized, demanding, yet cheerful.  Great clinicians!  Long live Cassa!"
  • "The growth mindset everyone has, and the students that will help one, if ever asked. The environment we were in guided us to learn. The people: all bright and talented. Cassa Piano has the best of the best."
  • "One of my favourite parts of camp was being around people like me!  I walked in, sat down, and we all got talking...I asked, 'What’s your favourite subject?’ and they all said, ‘English!' 'Do you like country music?…’ ‘No’… I was like...My people!  Where have you been!"

Cassa Playwrights

In a dramatic and fun-filled week of half days, students from seven to twelve learn how to write, rehearse and perform their own unique play in just five days.

Cassa Kids

Developed by three of Calgary's leading arts educators, this five-day program provides children aged four to twelve an introduction to the four artistic disciplines of music, drama, movement and art. Participants are grouped according to age and experience.

Cassa Piano

During this five-day program, pianists aged nine to nineteen work on prepared solo repertoire and ensemble pieces with instruction from at least six different instructors, including guest clinicians. Workshops are provided on a variety of topics such as performance anxiety, piano technique, improvisation, composition, drama, art and writing. Students perform in two recitals to showcase the results of their efforts.
